Skeptical about gay guy from Nigeria that hit me up. ?
I had a white guy who I’m unsure about hit me up on a dating site, He’s suppose to be from the USA but told me that he’s attending college in Nigeria. As soon as he mentioned Nigeria I thought of the Nigerian romance scams which made me worried. I noticed that the guy makes a lot of spelling and grammar errors for a graduating college student. I’ve only talked to him for two days briefly so far and he wanted to know if he could move in with me. It’s just not going to happen.
What does nimma mean? He mentioned that.
Anyone has any stories of their own?
Sounds like a scam be catious!!!!

Nigerian Dating Questions:
Question about Nigerian Dating Scam?
Hi. I was surfing the net and happend to find this site. ( sorta interesting)
I do understand that western women thought they have met a sweet caring British male engineer who works for a construction company in Nigeria and eventually these women sent him money.
But I really don’t understand that thousands of western men sent money to a hot blonde female model who lives in Nigeria
I mean.. What kind of american female models do u think live in Nigeria? for what reason?
I just don’t understand how these men got tricked into sending money to nigeria.
They are horny, they are lonely, they are dillusional about their own looks, they are gullible, they are too trusting
There’s some guy on the Africa board caught up in this same scam who won’t believe people telling him he’s being conned out of thousands of dollars and this woman is never going to visit him, does not need money for her mother’s hospital bills, etc. You can point out the obvious and people still don’t want to believe it
Beware Of Scammers On Disabled Dating Personals!
Meeting new people from all over the globe is exciting! Dating sites have opened up new vistas for those seeking to make connections. This is especially true of the sites which cater to specific groups of people as they allow their subscribers access to a wider pool of people than they would otherwise come across. One such group of sites are those that pertain to disabled dating.
Disabled dating sites are a boon for differently able people. They provide a platform for social networking and make it easier for persons with disabilities to connect with others. A mere glance at the personals posted on the message board of any disabled dating website is proof enough that the sites cater to many different kinds of people, both disabled and non-disabled.
Disabled dating personals provide interesting insights to the wide range of thoughts and experiences of others. Many introductions through the personals have had happy endings. But the flip side – there are many scams and frauds.
One frequently quoted story is the famous 419 Nigerian Scam. Online daters were lured into making friends with young women, allegedly from the United States. After the initial introductions, the contacts would become increasingly personal until unsuspecting daters would find themselves cheated out of their money. It was ultimately discovered that the scammers were actually in Nigeria and not women at all!
As a group, disabled daters are quite susceptible to frauds. Scammers posing as attractive singles join the websites with the sole purpose of exploiting the vulnerability of disabled singles. Criminals too, often use dating websites intent on finding victims, especially for sex crimes.
Thus, almost all dating websites carry warnings and tips on how to spot such unscrupulous individuals. Common warnings advise subscribers not to divulge personal details online until they are familiar with the other person and not to post personal information on public message boards and personals. They also urge members to report cases of fraud or harassment so that appropriate action can be taken.
Scammers are not the only hazard on disability dating sites. With the sheer number of sites on offer, it is difficult to decide which site is legitimate. Potential daters are readily attracted to free sites. But one could suddenly find oneself faced with an unexpected bill at the end of the month. Or find that only the registration to the site was free and every other service or access to information comes with a substantial price tag!
Low cost dating sites do not invest much time in verifying the information that is posted on the personals. Thus profile details may not be true and it is quite possible that members are in for an unpleasant surprise when they finally meet their date in person. Sites offering introductions to exotic women from Asian and Eastern European countries are well known for this.
Offering exciting adventures, they attract unsuspecting men who one day wake up to find that after spending a fortune corresponding with a supposedly exotic partner, the woman herself does not actually exist! Thus the ultimate advice for all online daters – have fun but do not forget to exercise caution.

Dealing With Date Scammers
Dating scams have become quite commonplace in the online world today. With more and more people turning to chat, dating and social networking sites to meet people and find romance, crooks and scammers from all around the world are licking their chops at all the available opportunities they now have. Though it seems no networking site is entirely immune, many are now finally taking the matter seriously and implementing more elaborate security measures. Nevertheless, scammers are becoming more and more sophisticated as well, finding and exploiting any available loophole. The only way to finally and totally quash this problem, if indeed it will ever be entirely quashed, is to bombard the online world with warnings and information. When we can rid the Internet of naïve victims, perhaps then we can finally rid the Internet of these foul perpetrators.
Although there is a lot of recent talk of Nigeria and the Ivory Coast, the reality is these scammers (I refrain to call them scam artists, as there is little if any artistry in it) are located in numerous countries around the world. As a result, addressing this problem is not always as simple as blocking visitors (IPs) from just one or two countries. Not to mention that many of the perpetrators are accessing the Internet through satellite servers, using the IP of neighboring countries. Many of the best dating sites are now disallowing mass mails, and taking further precautions in monitoring e-mails for scam appropriate language such as e-mail address spelt out (example: billsmithatyahoodotcom). The better sites can block these types of tricks, and are doing so each day with more and more sophistication. However, even the very best dating and social networking sites can’t always pick up on everything. This is why it is so important that online users are well educated and informed.
Here’s how it usually happens. Most scammers will simply log into a dating or social networking site, and send a generic message to members that fit particular criteria. For example, if the scammer is posing as an attractive female, he or she will likely attempt to contact single male members. The message will likely be very flattering, will probably mention one specific thing (the rest was copied and pasted), and will then invite the member to e-mail them at a personal address (likely a live or yahoo mail address). The scammer will then leave the site, and move on to another without ever actually returning to the earlier site. This way they are not worried if there membership is deleted, as they now hope to get their messages at their outside e-mail address. If a member should respond to this scammer, the scammer will then proceed with his or her scheme. The goal of all these schemes is to either have you send them money, or to provide them with personal information (example: banking information). Many scammers will come up with unique and incredible stories to try to appeal to your romantic or sympathetic side.
The first thing you can do is to never respond to an email that solicits you to reply to a personal, outside e-mail account. Assuming the dating site is free, you should keep your first few exchanges on the site itself. If you do get a suspicious e-mail (often in poor grammar and generic sounding), alert the site administrators and then delete the message. There is probably no point in responding to the message on the site, as the scammer is unlikely to return. However, if the administrator deletes the scammer’s account, it should also delete all the messages sent. This might prevent others from seeing the same message and responding.
Though this should address the majority of scams, there are still those that will hang around on a site and build relationships with multiple members. This is why you should try to pick a chat, dating or social networking site that has free video chat available. Video chat is an excellent way of verifying the visual identity of someone. If someone refuses to video chat with you for even a minute, there is a good chance this person may not look like the photograph (or photographs) he or she is using. A lot of date scammers take their profile pictures from modeling sites. However, remember that appearances are not everything. If the person your messaging claims to live in your area, you should decide upon a public place to meet sooner than later in the relationship. If, however, you decide to participate in a long distance relationship, always keep your guard up and keep your eyes and ears open for anything suspicious.
Despite the obvious flaws and setbacks, online chat, dating and social networking are still awesome ways of keeping up with friends and meeting new people. Dating sites are especially successful in providing the average single with more choice and selection than he or she otherwise would have. So be informed, and let common sense govern your online endeavors. Be a bit skeptical, but remember that there are a lot of other genuine people like you looking for love and romance. Don’t let a few rotten apples spoil all your fun. When enough of us have been informed, these scammers will have no either choice but to move on to their next scheme.
want to know if I am being scammed?
Met a guy on a christian dating site and he says he had to go to Lagos, Nigeria with his 5yr-old son to get materials for a job he has contracted for in the states. He said that he and his son were robbed today on their way to get the materials, and his son was hit on the head w/ a gun and is in a coma, and the doctor won’t give him meds until my friend pays first. How can I find out if this is true, or name of hospital?
you dont even have to check, this is a scam, it is. And the us embassy even issued a newsletter warning about this http://ghana.usembassy.gov/root/pdfs/acsnewslettermar09.pdf
its always the same story – american or briton in africa (nigeria or ghana) with their child, robbed or in a serious accident, in hospital and need money for bills, keep coming up with new excuses for money as long as you send it
‘The scammer has incredibly bad luck– often getting into car crashes, arrested, mugged, beaten, or hospitalized — usually all within the course of a couple of months. They often claim that their key family members (parents and siblings) are dead. Sometimes, the scammer claims to have an accompanying child overseas who is very sick or has been in an accident.’
if he really was american and his son was in a coma the us embassy would be dealing with this, not you. they have emergency loans to pay for hospital treatment. And in Africa you dont pay before treatment, you are billed after treatment. dont send any money and cut off contact
